New From NSC, NORC, and Nationwide. Whose side?

As substance misuse across the country rises, your workforce is not immune. One in 12 workers is now dealing with an untreated substance use disorder (SUD).

Employers face an average annual cost of $8,817 per employee with an untreated SUD. However, each employee who recovers from an [sic] SUD saves your organization over $8,500 on average, and employer-initiated treatment is more successful than treatment initiated by friends or family members.

The unprecedented challenges brought on by the pandemic require employers to play a robust role. Addressing substance misuse is one of the greatest ways you can directly support your employees.

I just found this in my email from the National Safety Council. The title was “Learn How Substance Abuse Impacts Your Bottom Line.”

The title bothered me because it then hawks a calculator to determine how much money the business could be losing. I would prefer it had lists of signs of SUD. Or perhaps sources to find more information. Or organizations such as Street Smart Ohio for information.
