Listen Lucy

http://listenlucy.org/

For years starting in middle school, I was convinced there was something wrong with me. It would come and go as I graduated to high school. I was the middle kid. My sister was dynamic.  I was quiet. She was athletic, and I tried. I was more musical and academic. Some of my teachers reinforced this talent.  Many more did not. One teacher even insisted on calling me by my sister’s name.  We resembled each other, but we were clearly different. As a kid, I would make lists on how to improve myself – not only on New Years but all the time.

In the 60s we had slambooks. These awful things were stenopads that would be passed around person to person.  Lists of people would be in this pad and opinions were expressed on who was pretty and popular and who was not.  Some were so mean these slambooks were eventually banned from the high school and the promise of detentions were made if caught with one. You see bullying is not new. I guess you could say it was our form of cyberbullying.

I wish I had something like “Listen Lucy”.  Listen Lucy is a website where kids can write their feelings.  Jordan had a rough high school experience also.  She also felt something was wrong with her and became depressed. She was miserable.
